Friday Favourites - Skincare Essentials! (What I Do and Don't Recommend)

Hello m'lovelies!

So it's Fridaayy and I'm back with another Friday Favourites post for you today!

Today I was unsure what to base this favourites post on but I decided to write about the products that complete a skincare routine and include some information about the products I do and products I don't recommend!

This will be a long post but here we go!

I'm going to start with products to remove your makeup (if you don't wear makeup feel welcome to skip to the next part!)

Removing your makeup is essential to ensure you don't breakout. Also it is best to use a seperate product to remove your makeup and cleanse your skin to make sure your skin is cleansed properly and all your makeup is removed!

♥ I think the most popular way to remove makeup is with makeup wipes.
I have tried different brands of makeup wipes such as Simple, Wilkinson Skin Therapy, Garnier, Nivea etc and I like them but I feel that the moisture in the wipes (no mattter what brand) seems to go to the bottom of the packet so I've changed the way I remove my makeup.
If you like makeup wipes then I would recommend the Simple wipes out of all the ones I have tried.
Read my review of the Wilkinson Skin Therapy wipes here.

♥ The way I remove my eye makeup is with cotton pads and the Simple Kind to Eyes Eye Make-up Remover.
I really like this and it doesn't irritate my sensitive eyes!
I would definitely recommend this and I see see myself repurchasing this in the future!
However, this can feel oily and greasy so not everyone will like this product.
*This retails at £3.39 for 125ml*

♥ I like the Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Facial Wash to remove the rest of my makeup.
I was one of the people who spent so much money on makeup wipes when I didn't like them much so I decided to purchase this after reading reviews online.
The good thing about this is that it removes my makeup whilst caring for my skin aswell.
You only need one pump of this to remove your makeup well and it really lathers up well!
I already have a backup from a recent promotion but I will definitely repurchase this after my current two bottles run out!
*This retails at £4.94 for 200ml*

Next up, moisturisers!

Moisturisers are essential to keep your skin soft and if your skin is dry, they can help to reduce the dryness. They are also essential as a makeup base so that your makeup has something to cling onto.

♥ The Boots Vitamin E Moisture Lotion SPF 15 is the moisturiser I recommend as a base for your makeup! This moisturises your skin well, sinks in quickly and provides the perfect base for your makeup.
As this has SPF 15, it protects your skin during the day if it is sunny. If you don't wear any makeup, this would be a great product to keep your face moisturised and protected from the sun.
*This retails at £2.85 (available in Boots only) for 100ml*

♥ The other moisturiser I recommend is the Simple Spotless Skin Anti-Blemish Moisturiser.
I love this moisturiser and I really recommend it to be used at night after cleansing your skin.
I haven't tried this under makeup but I recommend using this at night and have a different moisturiser for the day.
Read my full review here.
*This retails at £4.99 for 75ml*

 Next are cleansers!

Cleansers are definitely an essential in any skincare routine! They keep your skin clear, clean and remove the last residue of makeup.

♥ The first cleanser is the Garnier Pure Active Exfo-Brusher Wash.
I recommend this because of the bristles so it really exfoliates the skin on your face.
However, if you have sensitive or very very dry skin then this may not be for you.
If you are like me and don't like body or face scrubs but want to exfoliate the skin on your face then this would work for you!
It cleared my skin a little but not as much as I wanted but this does last a long time!
*This retails at £7.99 for 150ml*

♥ The Neutrogena Visibly Clear Pink Grapefruit Facial Wash, as I said, this is what I use as a makeup remover but I also use this in the shower after washing my hair to make sure none of the chemicals from my hair products have got into my skin.
I don't think this would be amazing on its own to clear your skin fully.
*This retails at £4.94 for 200ml*

I have heard a lot of hype about the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser but I have sensitive skin so the muslin cloth is too harsh and painful on my skin.

♥ Instead of the Liz Earle cleanser which I know a lot of people love, I really like the LUSH Ultrabland Facial Cleanser.
This is the best cleanser I have used and I have tried cleansers from brands like; Garnier, Liz Earle, Clarins, Clean & Clear, Simple, Neutrogena etc.
I recommend this to absolutely everyone who has problem skin or who just wants to keep their skin clear. You remove this with damp cotton pads which lightly exfoliates your skin.
This does reduce redness on the face too so that is also a plus!
I will definitely repurchase this without a second thought:)
*This retails at £6.75 for 45g or £10.75 for 100g*

Second to last are toners!

Toners are essential as they make sure that all of your cleanser is removed from your skin.

♥ The first toner I tried was the Boots Essentials Cucumber Facial Toner and I finished two bottles of this before I realised it contained alcohol.
I really don't recommend this because of the alcohol and because it made my skin feel tight after I applied it.
I am glad I stopped using this and will never go back to it!
*This retails at £1.42 for 150ml*

♥ The Boots Botanics 100% Organic Rosewater Toning Spritz is my newest toner and I really like it!
It doesn't contain alcohol, doesn't make your skin feel tight and keeps my skin feeling fresh!
I really recommend this to anyone and I will definitely repurchase this!
*This retails at £4.99 for £150ml but is currently £3.33*

 Lastly are blemish/spot treatments!

These aren't essential to everyone as there are some people who never get a breakout but for the people who do, these are an essential as cleansers won't fully treat them.

♥ The Neutrogena Visibly Clear Rapid Clear Treatment is a great product and definitely better than the Simple one I originally used and I am on my second tube of this!
I really recommend this product and it lasts for a very long time!
*This retails at £3.99 for 15ml*

♥ The other is the e.l.f. Mineral Blemish Kit.
This is a mineral powder and it can be used as a concealer aswell as a blemish treatment.
I like this but I reach for this more when I am wearing makeup that day instead of applying this as there isn't really a need to cover up blemishes if I am not going out.
This may not be best if you are on a budge and I like this but I don't think I would repurchase this.
I recommend this if you don't like gel treatments or if you would use this as a concealer too but if you don't like mineral makeup then this won't be for you!
*This retails at £7.50 for 3.3g*

So that is it for this Friday Favourites and I am sorry this was a long post but I hope I have helped you decide which products to purchase:)

Thank you very much for reading!
Have you tried any of these products? What are your favourites?

  5. That pink grapefruit facewash looks like it would smell amazing! I love the superdrug hot cloth cleanser which I just wash off instead of using a muslin cloth so that might be gentler for you?
